The simple truth is that vampires are real, though for you it is much more complicated than that. You see, you believe that we exist in your world but the truth is that you exist in ours. You have always existed in our world, you simply have never known the truth until now.
You are nothing more than our feed stock. Your myths depict vampires hiding from humans out of fear. This is not true. We hide from you, yes, but we do so to allow you to prosper and grow. The more food we have, the better off we are. The logic is so very simple, I am sure that even you can understand it.
As an example, compare your existence to that of a fruit tree. You can harvest the fruit of the tree while also allowing its fruit to fall so that more fruit trees will grow. For many years we protected our food source from predators. We killed off those things that would kill you much like a farmer would kill weeds and insects. Then, many years ago, humans took root and flourished. We no longer needed to tend to our garden and could, instead, simply watch and feed. This might be akin to a forest of fruit trees that has been allowed to grow wild.
Humans are like fruit trees that grow like weeds. Humans conquer all environments and seem to master all situations. We found that when we tried to intervene, it did more damage than good. These interventions are where some of your myths come from, as well as most of your religions.
Baal, from what you call the Bible, demanded that his worshipers sacrifice their children to him. This is because children’s blood tastes better than adult blood. As you like the soft flesh of young animals, so do we. Others from that time deemed that Baal had overstepped his bounds by trying to protect his flock and quashed his reign. But you humans twisted and perverted the truth.
Of course, now and again, one of my kind still make themselves known for whatever reason. This is where you get your more modern myths, Dracula is the best example (try reading Bram Stoker's Dracula without laughing; I know I can't do it) . And, of course, the romantic view of these incidents is what drives your modern thinking—The Vampire’s Daughter is a laughable example of this.
I find Buffy the Vampire Slayer particularly cute because it is written with the premise that humans can actually defeat vampires. One, perhaps, if you are lucky—but several each and every week? Never!
Think of your situation like the television show Kindred: The Embraced. We rule you through a shadow network of power. We know what you desire and we give it you in such a way that you believe you control your own destiny.
